Connor O'Rourke (Jupiter, FL / FAU) carded a team-best 218 (+2) on 11 birdies to help the Jaspers place 16th in the FAU Slomin Invitational this past weekend.
O'Rourke was consistent over the three-day tournament. He shot one-over par (73) in the first two rounds before finishing for par in the final stanza, putting him in the top 35 on the leaderboard.
Manhattan as a team performed well, particularly on Par-5 holes. The Jaspers were collectively five-over par in those holes. In addition, Manhattan's 34 birdies were the best compared to MAAC rivals Monmouth and Canisius, who also participated in the event.
Senior
Johnny Schob (Huntington, NY / Salisbury School) had Manhattan's best round of the invite on Sunday, finishing three-under par. It was a nine-stroke improvement from his second round result.
Local team Lynn University took home the team title with a score of 826 (-37). The University of Connecticut's Jimmy Hervol won the tournament, shooting 15-under par throughout the tournament and edging out Lynn's Carlos Bustos (-14). As for the MAAC, Monmouth placed 14th, while Canisius was 19th.
Manhattan Golf returns home before traversing to Grasonville, MD for the Towson Invitational. The two-day tournament lasts from Saturday, April 7 to Sunday, April 8. Play should begin at approximately 8:00 am.
