RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Seniors Thomas Romano and Matt Baney combined to shoot an impressive 12 under par but the Manhattan men's golf team fell to Saint Peter's, 10.5 to 1.5 Tuesday afternoon in a dual match at the Rock Spring Country Club in West Orange, N.J.
After splitting the fall series 1-1, Manhattan showed they could battle one of the MAAC's best pairings but overall were unable to outscore the Peacocks, who impressive with a 3 under par total on the day.
Romano and Baney had the only points for the Jaspers, splitting the top match with Saint Peter's Sean Fitzpatrick and Andrew Gain to open play.
In the second head-to-head competition, senior Anthony Dinelli and junior Robert Kehoe fell by one stroke each in a tight contest with Peacock golfers Greg Thor and T.J. Summingray.
Finishing the contest, the combination of upperclassmen Chris Critelli and Michael Villarosa were defeated by a lone stroke while sophomores Kyle DeRespinis and Michael McGorty lost their matches by four and three strokes, respectively.
The Jaspers look to get back into the swing of things Saturday, when they head to Lafayette, Pa. to participate in the Lafayette College Golf Spring Invitational. Opening tee-off has been set for 8 a.m.
