RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan men's golf team kicked off the 2011 spring season with a sixth place finish at the Spring Fling Tournament in Thiells, N.Y. Monday afternoon.
"We had some good efforts for the first time out," Coach Walter Olsewski said. "Under some tough conditions the team put together a decent outing against some quality competition."
An 11-team tournament at the Philip Rotella golf course, the Jaspers shot a team total of 324 in the one-round event. Coming in first with a score of 299 was Skidmore College, followed by St. Thomas Aquinas (301) and Nyack College (309) in second and third place, respectively.
Leading the way for Manhattan, freshman Chris Calabro shot a 78 on the day while classmate Paul Toohey and junior Chris Critelli each logged an 80 on the Par 72.
The Jaspers return to the green Tuesday afternoon, when they face-off with MAAC foe Saint Peter's in a dual match at the Rock Spring Country Club. An opening tee-off team has been set for 3 p.m.
