Jaspers Place Sixth At 9th Annual Peacocks Invitational

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan men's golf team finished the 2011 regular season with a sixth place finish at the 9th Annual Peacocks Invitational Tuesday afternoon in Neshanic Station, N.J.

"We finished out the spring season with an up and down effort," Coach Walter Olsewski said. "The team had some nice moments on the afternoon and we will look to carry that momentum into the MAAC Championship this weekend."

Competing against premiere Division I opponents from the Tri-State Area and Pennsylvania regions at the Neshanic Valley Golf Course, the Jaspers shot a combined score of 324 to end the afternoon tied with La Salle University. Picking up the victory in the event, Lafayette College led all opponents with a team total of 308, followed by Monmouth University and Iona College, which held scores of 311 and 312, respectively.

Leading the way for Manhattan, senior Matt Baney recorded an 80 in the 18-hole tournament, with junior golfers Robert Kehoe and Pat Bibaud each logging an 81 on the round.

Finishing the scoring for the Jaspers, third-year member Chris Critelli came in a stroke behind his junior classmates with an 82 while freshman Paul Toohey rounded out the afternoon by shooting an 83.

A strong fall and spring season for Manhattan, the Jaspers will finish their 2010-11 campaign this weekend when they head to Lake Buena Vista, Fla. to compete in the 2011 MAAC Championship. A challenging 54-hole tournament at Disney's Magnolia Course, the three-day invitational will run from Friday, April 29 to Sunday, May 1.
