RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan men's golf put together its strongest performance of the spring season Thursday afternoon, shooting a combined 310 to finish second at the 2011 Susquehanna Spring Outing in Selinsgrove, Pa.
"We performed very well yesterday at Susquehanna University," Coach Walter Olsewski said. "Several of our players had strong outings and helped us finish towards the top of the standings in the tournament."
Consisting of 14 teams from the Greater New York and New England regions, the one-round tournament was held at the Susquehanna Valley Country Club. Host-school Susquehanna took home first place with a score of 310, with Manhattan, Penn State Harrisburg (316) and Rutgers Camden (325) rounding out the top four teams.
A sign of things to come in the future, freshman Chris Calabro was outstanding on the day, shooting a 75 to win the low medalist award for the entire tournament. The honor was the first of his young career.
Also putting together strong performances, junior Chris Critelli recorded a 77 through 18 holes with fellow classmate Robert Kehoe logging a 79. Senior Louis Perry and freshman Paul Toohey completed the scoring for Manhattan, with totals of 82 and 89, respectively.
The Jaspers return to the green Tuesday, when they compete in the 9th Annual Peacock Invitational in Neshanic Station, N.J.
