RIVERDALE, N.Y.- In their first course play of the 2010 fall season, the Manhattan College golf team hit the links swinging, finishing tied for sixth place at the Assumption College Golf Invitational in Sutton, Mass. The Jaspers' ended the afternoon with a one round score of 310 and were led by sophomore and Sutton native Matthew Creamer, whose individual 75 was good for a tie of eighth overall.
Directly behind Creamer, senior Anthony Dinelli posted a 76, junior Massachusettsian Pat Bibaud logged a 79, and fellow classmates Chris Critelli and Robert Kehoe recorded scores of 80 and 86 respectively.
The nine-team competition, consisting of NCAA Division I, II and III universities from across the Northeast region was won by The College of the Holy Cross, with a final team total of 294. The Crusader's also had the three best personal scores on the day, including Roberto Macado's 70 to lead the pack.
While Manhattan''s scorecards leave something to be desired, overall, coach Walter Olsewski was pleased with his team's play in their return to the green.
"For it being day one out there, the kids shooting a 310 is very admirable. We hope to continue to improve on those scores, looking toward the weekend's invitational at Central Connecticut State University," Olsewski said.
The team returns to action this Saturday with the Central Conn. Blue Devils Fall Invitational, held at the Wethersfield Country Club in Wethersfield, Conn.
