RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan College golf team may don the green and white but they are red hot over their last two weeks. Behind another collaborative effort, the Jaspers finished first at the Purchase College Golf Invitational in Purchase, N.Y., shooting a team total of 326.
Their second straight tournament victory, Manhattan had three players rank in the top 10 overall. Freshman Paul Toohey continues his torrid play with a third place finish (80), while senior Anthony Dinelli (81) and junior Chris Critelli (82), ended the afternoon in sixth and eighth respectively. Robert Kehoe was right there as well, logging one more stroke than fellow classmate Critelli in shooting an 83.
"With this being a course we had never played at before, we were at a bit of a disadvantage coming in but the team played extremely well and brought home the bacon with a win," coach Walter Olsewski said.
The nine-team event featured local colleges from around the greater New York area, but on this day, Manhattan bested them all finishing seven-strokes ahead of runner-up Nyack College's 333. Host school, Purchase College finished ninth with a score of 373.
Playing their second match in two days, Manhattan will play host to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe Saint Peter's on Wednesday at the Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville, N.Y. Tee off is set for 2 p.m.
