Freshman Year 2017-18
Arrived in January and made an instant impact ... Won the bronze in the 200-yard IM with a record-setting swim of 1:49.96 at the MAAC Championships ... Also broke the 200-yard Freestyle record three times during the meet, capped off by a fifth-place finish in 1:39.75 ... Led the 800-yard Freestyle Relay that established 6:54.95 as the new record, six seconds faster than the previous mark ... Claimed gold in the 200 SC Meter IM in 2:11.22, seven seconds faster than the runner-up, in the dual meet season finale at Fairfield ... Picked up his first collegiate victory in the 200 SC Meter IM in the dual meet win over Baruch.

Before Manhattan: Attended high school at Paarl Boys High School, where he swam for Head Coach Paul Emslie ... Was a team captain in 2017 ... Named the Best Senior Swimmer from 2015-2017 ... Experience in Freestyle, IM and Fly events, he timed 2:09.18 and 4:38.73 in the 200-meter and 400-meter Long Course IM.

Personal: Son of Stephan and Serina van Huyssteen ... Has two sisters, Imre and Mila ... Sister Imre swims at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock.
