Box Score TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Manhattan Jasper Baseball was held to just two hits Friday evening by No. 18 Alabama, suffering a season-opening 4-0 loss at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
The Jaspers (0-1) will play game two of the three-game series against the Crimson Tide Saturday at 3 p.m. ET.
Costly mistakes in the first inning gave Alabama its early two-run lead. Three hits followed in the bottom of the third, driving in what would be the final two runs of the game.
Jaspers
Daniel Perez and
Chase Swain put together two hits against the ranked foe in tonight's contest. Perez singled to center to open the third, but was caught stealing to end the effort. Swain repeated the charge in the top of the seventh, but a fielder's choice at third shut down the Jaspers once again.
"It's tough to lose on opening day, or any day, but I feel we played a solid game," said head coach
Dave Miller.
Despite the Jaspers' inactive offense,
Justin Solimine (0-1) and
Greg Shaw put together a great performance on the mound. The duo combined for seven strikeouts while allowing just six hits.
"Justin (Solimine) and Greg (Shaw) both pitched their tails off and held a Top 20 team to three earned runs on seven hits."
