RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan women's soccer team fell to visiting Fairfield, 1-0, at home tonight. The loss sets the Jaspers back to 3-6-3, including 2-3-2 in conference play.
Coach Lawler thought his team fought hard saying, "Another great effort, but unfortunately not the result we were looking for. We are looking forward to getting back at it on Saturday."
Fairfield struck early, recording the only goal of the contest in the 10th minute with a shot that found the left side of the net for the goal. The goal was credited to Fairfield's Sam Kersey, and assisted by Maddy Theriault. The Jaspers were led in net by Margaret Brunk. She recorded nine saves in ten attempts, keeping Manhattan alive until the very last minute, when on their final attack, Julia Nicholas struck one on net that was ultimately saved by the goalkeeper of Fairfield.
With the loss, the Jaspers remain one point out of a spot in the MAAC Tournament. With three games remaining on the schedule, every contest from here forward is crucial to Jaspers postseason hopes.
Manhattan returns to the pitch Saturday, October 14, when they host Niagara on Senior Day at 12 p.m.
