Jaspers Edged by Broncs, 1-0

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan battled Rider for the full 90 minutes but came up short in a 1-0 setback on Wednesday night at Gaelic Park.

Rider (5-3-2, 2-1 MAAC) got the decisive goal just before the hour mark from Lindsey Maslow. Maslow got a pass from Makenzie Rodrigues and beat Kim Mains in the Jasper goal to the near right post for her fourth of the season.

Minutes before the Rider goal, Manhattan (2-4-1, 0-2 MAAC) had chances to take a 1-0 lead of its own but were turned away. Julia Nicholas put a free kick on goal that Ellie Sciancalepore couldn't control it initially but gained control to prevent a rebound opportunity. Less than a minute later, Brooke Zimmer had a chance that was turned away from Sciancalepore.

While trailing over the final 30 minutes, the Jaspers came close to finding an equalizer but could not get that last touch or have a shot find its way through the Broncs' defense inside the box and past Sciancalepore. Nevaeh D'Aloia and Nicolette Caneda had opportunities stopped by Sciancalepore inside the 12 minutes.

The Jaspers finished the night with 11 shots and four on goal. Both totals are the highest since the 2-0 win at Delaware State on Sept. 5.

Mains returned to action after missing the Niagara game and made two stops.

The Green and White return to Gaelic Park on Saturday for another MAAC tilt as Siena comes down the thruway for a 3 p.m. start.
