NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – Manhattan opened its MAAC schedule with a 3-0 loss to Niagara on Saturday afternoon in Western New York.
Manhattan (2-3-1, 0-1 MAAC) got seven saves from Aubrey Johnstone, who was making her first start of the season, but could not get their own chances at the other end of the pitch. Niagara (4-5, 1-1 MAAC) outshot the Jaspers 17-3 and 10-1 in shots on goal.
The Purple Eagles grabbed the lead early when Annie Ibey netted her third of the season in the fourth minute. Ibey was found at the back post by a cross from Emma Bough.

Julia Nicholas found some space down the right side and fired in a shot from outside the 18-yard box that was handled by Niagara's Agnes Stenlund at the near post. Nicholas' chance turned out to be the lone shot on frame for the Jaspers.
Niagara would add two more goals to its tally in the first half. Bough scored her second of the season in the 31
st minute, and Ebba Norton got her first of 2022 with less than three minutes remaining in the opening 45.
Johnstone made five stops in the opening 45 minutes for the Jaspers. The seven stops are the most in a game this season by a Jasper goalkeeper.
The Green and White return to the friendly confines of Gaelic Park for the next two games. Rider visits Gaelic Park on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
