Jaspers and Seawolves End in 1-1 Draw

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Manhattan tied Stony Brook 1-1 on Wednesday night on Long Island in the final non-conference game for the Jaspers.

Manhattan (2-2-1) was efficient with its chances, needing only two shots on goal to score. Sami Derrico netted her second of the season in the 28th minute to give the Jaspers the 1-0 lead. Julia Nicholas supplied the assist, her first of the season.

Derrico leads the team with two goals and four points this season.

The goal from Derrico gave the Jaspers the lead at the half and until the 76th minute. Stony Brook (3-5-1) tied the game through Gabby Daniels. Catherina von Drigalski played in Daniels for the equalizer.

The Seawolves held an 18-3 advantage on shots but a smaller advantage, 5-2, in shots on goal. Outside of Daniels' goal, the Jasper defense held Stony Brook to only two shots on goal in the second half. Kim Mains needed to make only three saves—all in the first half.

Stony Brook's goal was just the third allowed by Manhattan this season. The three goals are the fewest allowed in the MAAC. Manhattan also leads the MAAC in GAA (0.60).

Manhattan returns to the pitch on Saturday, Sept. 24, at Niagara in the first game of MAAC play.
