RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan picked up its first win of the 2022 season with a 1-0 win over St. Francis Brooklyn on Thursday night.
Julia Nicholas scored the lone goal in the 43
rd minute with an assist from
Izzy Lachcik. Manhattan (1-1) finished the night with 12 shots and put nine on goal compared to St. Francis Brooklyn's (1-3-1) five shots and three on goal.
Kim Mains made three saves to earn her first shutout of the season and sixth of her career.
Nicholas got on the end of a pass from Lachick and moved her way through the Terrier defense, and beat Klil Keshwar in the Terrier goal to the left post to put home her first of the season.
The Jaspers found time and space to test Keshwar three times in the second half but could not double their advantage.
Brooke Zimmer tried to beat Keshwar to the right but was turned away in the 61
st minute. Nicholas tried to go shot side in the 75
th but was denied when Keshwar went down to her right and controlled the shot. Two minutes later,
Ianah Mackey had her chance stopped as Keshwar came off her line to break up the chance.
Kendra Rust might have had the best chance for the visitors on the night. The sophomore shot just over the crossbar in the 60
th minute that would have tied the game.
Manhattan turns its attention to four straight games away from Gaelic Park, starting with a trip to Delaware State on Monday at 7 p.m. The next home game for the Jaspers is on Sept. 28 against Rider.
