BURLINGTON, Vt. –
Grace Lipponer had seventh points Monday afternoon, but Manhattan dropped a 16-11 contest at Vermont.
Vermont (6-1) led 3-1 after the first quarter.
Jillian Reiner got the first goal on the board for Manhattan (4-3), with 2:20 remaining in the opening quarter. Lipponer supplied the first of her two assists.
The teams combined for nine goals in the second quarter. Lipponer tallied a hat trick in the quarter. The senior's third goal of the stanza got the Jaspers to within one, 6-5, with 5:34 remaining before halftime. The Catamounts answered with two goals to restore a three-goal advantage at the half.
Julia Fernandes supplied the lone goal for the Jaspers in the third quarter at the 8:21 mark. Vermont followed its five-goal second quarter with another five-goal quarter. The Catamounts scored the first two and the final three of the quarter.
Vermont built a 16-8 advantage in the fourth. Fernandes started a three-goal run with 2:59 remaining in the game.
Meghan Rodino scored back-to-back goals to finish the run.
Lipponer's five goals brings her total to 24 on the season, which puts the senior inside the top 30 nationally. Reiner finished the game with three points—two goals and an assist.
