Women’s Lacrosse Bested on the Road by Siena; Maher Picks Up Hat Trick and Serbinski Records Career High in Saves

LOUDONVILLE, NY — Manhattan found themselves in a slugfest of a first half, as it trailed Siena 6-4 at halftime. However, it was the Saints who pulled away over the final two periods, defending its home field against the Jaspers by a final score of 14-8. 



HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Manhattan opened the scoring festivities when junior attack Lauren Maher found the back of the net at 10:03 of the first quarter. 

  • Siena then doubled up the Jaspers, scoring the next two goals to jump back in front 2-1 at Hickey Field. 

  • Maher executed again minutes later to knot the scoreline at two. However, Olivia Nicholson and Elizabeth Wamp each added their second goals of the afternoon to take a 4-2 lead for Siena into the second quarter. 

  • Siena opened the second quarter with a free position goal from Cass Belsito to extend its lead to three. 

  • Manhattan would get two more back in the second quarter, one goal from Ava Fernandes and another from Maher from the free position, to send the Jaspers into halftime down 6-4.

  • Siena upped their advantage by outscoring the Jaspers 4-1 in the third quarter. The Saints also posted a 4-3 advantage over the final 15 minutes of play to put the finishing touches on the victory. 

  • Meghan Wendler and Juliana Mahan each recorded goals in the second half, while Julia Kerr notched a pair of free position goals to cap the scoring for the Jaspers. 

 

STATS AND NOTES

  • Junior Danielle Serbinski set a personal-best 15 saves, outdoing her previous best 13 which she set last month versus Sacred Heart.

  • Lauren Maher's hat trick was the second of her career but her first outing with three conversions this season. 

  • Julia Kerr netted her second multi goal game of her young career, finishing with two goals on Wednesday. 

  • Manhattan went 14-17 (82.3%) on clears. 

 


NEXT UP

The Jaspers (2-9, 1-2 MAAC) will have a quick turnaround when it returns to Gaelic Park on Saturday to face Quinnipiac (5-6, 0-3 MAAC) at 11 am. The program will hold senior day festivities prior to the start of the game.
