POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Manhattan dropped a 2-0 decision to Marist on Saturday night.
Kim Mains made a season-high 11 saves for the Jaspers.
Marist (4-4-5, 2-3-2 MAAC) scored once in each half to claim the three points. Nicole Colantuono scored in the 40
th minute to give the Red Foxes a 1-0 lead. Colantuono's free-kick deflected in off the Jasper wall and went in at the far post. The goal was the fifth of the season for Colantuono, who leads Marist on the year.
The second goal for the Red Foxes came through Lauryn Schmidt in the 72
nd minute. It was Schmidt's second of the season.
Mains was busy throughout the game for the Jaspers. Six of the 11 stops came in the first half. Marist fired 14 shots in the opening 45 minutes and finished the night with 23.
Manhattan (3-6-3, 1-4-2) did get its chances on the night. The Jaspers were credited with a season-high 16 shots, with five on goal.
The best chance for the Jaspers came when the game was 1-0 with 37 minutes to play.
Reina Callahan had her shot blocked, and then Manhattan had a chance cleared off the line by a Marist defender at the right post after a Jasper corner.
Julia Nicholas and
Nicolette Caneda had shots blocked by Red Foxes with the score 1-0.
The loss puts the Jaspers four points behind Mount St. Mary's for the sixth and final spot in the MAAC Championship with three games remaining in the regular season.
Manhattan will travel to first-place Quinnipiac on Wednesday for its next game.
