Riverdale, NY - Alicia Larsson Vahlberg's goal in the 81st minute lifted Canisius to a 2-1 win over Manhattan in MAACÂ action at Gaelic Park.
The Golden Griffins improved to 6-3 and 2-1 in the MAAC while the Jaspers fall to 1-7 and 0-1 in the league.
Canisius opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Shauna Lee converted a header off of Lexi Perry's corner kick.
Manhattan then ramped up its offensive attack and appeared poised to tie the game in the 35th minute, as junior
Bri DeLeo (Harriman, NY / Monroe-Woodbury) blasted a ball to what appeared to be a wide-open net, that was stopped by a Golden Griffin defender.
The Jaspers finally broke through in the 44th minute when sophomore
Eve Montgomery (Abington, MA / Whitman-Hanson Regional) just beat the goalie on a run out, before lofting the ball into the net from 25 yards out.

Notes
* Montgomery's goal was the second of her career, with the first coming last year against Saint Peter's.
* DeLeo's second career assist gives her three points for the year.
* She also had a team-high four shots, including two on goal.

Camryn Nici (Seaford, NY / St. Anthony's) made two saves in defeat.
* Alana Rossi also had two saves in collecting the win.
* Manhattan posted advantages in shots (10-6) and corner kicks (5-2), with each team registering four shots on goal.
