Montefusco Nets Two Goals In Setback

Box Score (PDF)

North Andover, MA -
Junior Arianna Montefusco (Levittown, NY / General Douglas MacArthur) scored a pair of goals, but it wasn't enough as Manhattan dropped a 5-3 decision to Merrimack in non-conference action at Martone-Mejail Field.

The Warriors improve to 2-6 while the Jaspers fall 1-6.

Montefusco opened up the scoring in the ninth minute, when she received a long through ball from junior Gemma Perez (Park Ridge, NJ / Paramus Catholic) in the box, before taking one dribble and depositing the ball to the lower right corner of the goal.

Merrimack responded with four-straight scores in registering what appeared to be a comfortable three-goal advantage. However, Manhattan had other ideas.

In the 56th minute, freshman Kaitlyn Cooke (Vestal, NY / Vestal) found junior Bri DeLeo (Harriman, NY / Monroe-Woodbury), who placed the place ball perfectly into the lower left corner of the goal. Montefusco then scored in the exact same spot just 22 seconds later in the 57th minutes with a blast from 20 yards out.

Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Jaspers would get as the Warriors added to the lead in 85th minute to provide the final 5-3 score.
