Poughkeepsie, NY – Manhattan dropped a heartbreaking 2-1 decision in double overtime to Marist at Tenney Stadium.
The Red Foxes improve to 8-8-1 and 5-3-1 in the league while the Jaspers fall to 3-11-2 and 2-5-2 in the MAAC.
Marist controlled the action for most of the first half, only to see visitors capitalize on their first major opportunity of the match in the 43rd minute. Junior
Tia Painilainen (Espoo, Finland / Arizona) fired a cross that classmate
Bri DeLeo (Harriman, NY / Monroe-Woodbury) headed to
Alexa Chapman (Morganville, NJ / Marlboro), before the junior deposited the goal into the far post.
The Red Foxes appeared poised to tie the game in the 49th minute, only to be denied when sophomore
Kim Mains (Harriman, NY / Immaculate Heart Academy (NJ)) turned away a penalty kick.
Marist would attain another penalty kick in the 89th minute and Mains was again up to task, in denying the Red Fox opportunity. Unfortunately, Abby Murphy was there to put the rebound into the back of the net to tie it up at 1-1.
In extra time, Murphy delivered a goal off a Riley Abate corner kick in the 108th minute to earn the victory.

* Chapman's goal was the second of her career and the first since her freshman year in 2017.
* DeLeo notched her second assist of the season.
* Mains made a career-high matching eight saves, while senior
Olivia Printy (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL / St. Joseph Academy) turned away one shot in the first half.
* Marist posted advantages in shots (18-14), shots on goal (11-5) and corner kicks (5-1).
* The match was the third-straight for Manhattan to be decided in double overtime.
