Toledo, OH - Manhattan volleyball sophomore middle blocker
Erin Hoener (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) was named to the 2018 Blue and Gold All-Tournament Team after the Jaspers' three-match campaign at the University of Toledo this weekend.
Hoener earned eight kills in nine sets played, as well as eight blocks, averaging 0.89 blocks per set. She leads the Jaspers with 22 blocks this season, and is tied with teammate
Casey Monroe (Riverview, FL / Riverview) for a team-high 36 kills this year.
Highlights:
- Manhattan (0-10) fell twice on Saturday, September 8 in the Jaspers' final matches of the 2018 Blue and Gold Tournament, hosted by Toledo. Manhattan first lost a 3-0 contest to Morehead State, then suffered a 3-0 loss to the Rockets in the evening matchup.
- A poor hitting performance plagued the Jaspers against Morehead State (8-2). Manhattan went 4-30 in the first set with six errors, followed by a 3-24 attack in the second that included seven errors. Morehead State was held to a .000 hitting percentage in the first, as well as a .091 percentage in the third, but the Eagles put together a .444 performance in the middle set, earning 16 kills.
- Four Jaspers totaled three kills in the match: Hoener, Kenza Hall (Oakland, CA / Middle Tennessee State), Olyvia Chaltas (Temecula, CA / Great Oak), and Julia Menocal (Bronx, NY / Preston). Manhattan had 17 total kills in the match.
- Manhattan turned on the attack for the first set against Toledo (3-6), improving their hitting percentage to .303 with 12 kills.
- Monroe paced the Jaspers with six kills and a .333 hitting percentage for the match. Sophomore Meagan Miller (Oakville, ON / Oakville Trafalgar) went 4-8 in the match, with six points.
- Freshman Shruti Mangipudi (San Ramon, CA / Dougherty Valley) tallied a team-high 22 assists for the Jaspers, falling just behind Toledo setter Carly Townsend, who earned 23 for a game high.
- Prior to the Jaspers' match against Toledo, Manhattan Head Coach Lora Sarich, a 2007 Toledo grad, helped the Rockets present a commemorative volleyball to Maurissa Leonard, who broke Sarich's all-time digs record earlier this season.
