MAAC College Fair & Workshop Takes Place (Albany Capital Center)
Thursday, March 1: 4:30 pm-6:30 pm
The annual MAAC College Fair is set to take place on Thursday, March 1, at the Albany Capital Center from 4:30-6:30 pm. Manhattan will among all 11 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) institutions that will be in attendance to provide academic information for prospective students and parents.
"MAAC basketball is a showcase for its member institutions and their admission programs," notes MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. "The conference is pleased to conduct the College Fair to assist in those efforts, particularly admission counselors in regional school systems."
Attendees will be given a free ticket voucher to either the MAAC Men's or Women's Basketball Championship game on Monday, March 5. The voucher can be redeemed at the Times Union Center box office.
This year's MAAC College Fair features a hands-on approach for prospective students, and their parents to gather more information on the college admissions process. Each attendee will be broken off into a 45-minute breakout session upon arrival, which allows for admissions representatives to instruct on topics such as the importance of a college visit, guidance in the application process, benefits to attending college fairs, and an overview on financial aid and scholarships. Upon completion of the breakout session, students and parents will also have the opportunity to engage with each MAAC institutions representatives to learn more about each specific school.
ECAC Announces Full Schedule for eSports Expo at MAAC Fan Fest

The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and the MAAC announced the final schedule of events for its ECAC eSports Exhibition at the Albany Capital Center. The ECAC eSports Panel Discussions and Exhibition Tournament will take place on Thursday March 1, 2018 as part of the 2018 MAAC Basketball Championships Fan Fest.
The exhibition is a day-long event designed to educate college sports and recreation administrators about the rapidly expanding intercollegiate eSports opportunities for their institutions. The event will feature a series of panel discussions on eSports followed by a four-team eSports tournament on Riot Games' League of Legendsfeaturing ECAC and MAAC member schools.
The first panel, "Why eSports?" begins at 3:00 pm. President/ CEO of TeeVee Media Jim Bates will moderate a discussion amongst eSports consultants and university administrators. Panelists will discuss the multitude of reasons why eSports has become so popular and what is prompting colleges and universities across the country to create an eSports program.
The second panel discussion, "How to establish an eSports program," begins immediately following the first, and features several athletic directors who have created eSports programs for their students. They'll discuss what it takes to get a successful program off the ground, including cost, equipment, facility, personnel and campus buy-in.
Our third, and final panel, will address "The Future of eSports." This panel of eSports consultants will talk about how they envision the future of intercollegiate eSports. The panel will also feature a look at the launch of the ECAC eSports initiatives that will begin this spring.

Tickets to Hannaford MAAC-n-Cheese Fest now on sale
The Capital Region will celebrate the return of the MAAC Men's and Women's Basketball Championships to downtown Albany with the third annual Hannaford MAAC-n-Cheese Fest on Friday, March 2 at the Albany Capital Center from 4 to 6:30 pm. The popular fan festival will offer attendees the opportunity to sample gourmet mac-n-cheese dishes from a dozen Albany-area restaurants, as well as numerous craft beer and wine options from regional breweries and wineries.
Tickets for the Hannaford MAAC-n-Cheese Fest are on-sale now at www.albanyfanfest.com. Tickets are $8 and entitle guests to five samples of mac-n-cheese. Tasting tickets will also be available at the door (cash only).
Craft beer tasting tickets will be $5 for three samples and will be available exclusively at the event (must be at least 21 years old with a valid ID).
Participating restaurants at the Hannaford MAAC-n-Cheese Fest include the following: Ama Cocina; Allie B's; Angelo's 677 Prime; City Beer Hall; Cider Belly; Excelsior Pub; Parish Public House; Philly Bar and Lounge; Public House 42; Tala; Wellington's; and Wolff's Biergarten.
The Hannaford MAAC-n-Cheese Fest will also feature performances by pep bands and spirit squads from MAAC colleges and universities, as well as family-friendly entertainment and activities, including basketball-themed inflatables and a balloon artist. All musical performances and family activities will take place in the MAAC Fan Zone presented by Pioneer Bank.
