Fairfield, CT – In the regular season finale for both the men's and women's programs, the Jaspers dropped a road contest to Fairfield in dual meet, MAAC action at the RecPlex Pool on Wednesday evening.
In the losing effort, Manhattan saw sophomore Tyler Dalton (East Stroudsburg, PA / Pocono Mountain East) and freshman Andre van Huyssteen (Paarl, South Africa / Paarl Boys) pick up wins. The women's side also earned valuable points from senior Audrey Corcoran (West Boylston, MA / West Boylston)
Dalton was victorious in the 200 Short-Course Meter Breaststroke with a time of 2:31.84. In the 200 IM, van Huyssteen's first-place swim of 2:11.22 was over seven seconds ahead of the runner-up. The pair also earned two second-place marks in the 200 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke, respectively.
Elsewhere on the men's side, junior Evan Battisti (East Meadow, NY / East Meadow) placed second in the 800 Freestyle. Freshman Charles Ledda (New Fairfield, CT / New Fairfield) was just six milliseconds shy of first place in the 50 Freestyle. In the 200 Butterfly, senior Tyler McCloskey (Orangeburg, NY / Tappan Zee) swam 2:19.12, good for second place.
As for the women, Corcoran racked up points for the Jaspers across multiple heats. She raced into second in the 200 Backstroke thanks to a time of 2:32.04. She also earned third in the 200 IM as well as the 400 Freestyle Relay.
Senior Alexandra Hutzler (Miller Place, NY / Miller Place) also tallied a second-place finish with a 1:07.34 time in the 100 Butterfly. She collected points in the 50 Freestyle by swimming in 28.88 seconds, pushing her into third.
The Jaspers will use the next 13 days to prepare for the 2018 MAAC Championships held in Buffalo. The events begin on Wednesday, February 14 and last until Saturday, February 17.
