Worcester, MA - Manhattan fell in three sets to Brown on day one of the Holy Cross Invitational.
The Bears won by scores of 26-24, 25-17 and 25-10 in moving to 2-0 while the Jaspers fall to 0-5.
In the opening set, Brown opened up a 17-12 lead before Manhattan roared back with an 12-6 run in taking a 24-23 lead while forcing a Bear timeout. In the spurt, freshman
Erin Hoener (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) Â led the rally with an ace, block and kill. Unfortunately, Brown responded with three-straight points in picking up the 26-24 victory.
The Bears registered a wire-to-wire 25-17 win in the second set before claiming a 25-10 victory in the third and final set.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
* Junior
Sandra Lozanova (Pernik, Bulgaria / Fresno State) registered all four of her team-leading kills in the third set while also adding eight digs.
* Senior
Mary Donnelly (Temecula, CA / Chaparral) and junior
Olyvia Chaltas (Temecula, CA / Great Oak) matched Lozanova with a team-best kills.
* Junior
Alyssa Rehrer (Lorton, VA / South County) registered a team-high 12 digs while classmate
Zoe Lindsey (McHenry, IL / McHenry CC) added 11 assists.
* Hoener had three aces.
