LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Manhattan College men's and women's track & field teams concluded the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Outdoor Championships on Sunday afternoon at the Rider University Track & Field Complex. The Jaspers ended up second in the men's team standings, while the women's squad, led by Most Outstanding Performer For Field Events Ellinor Persson (Taby, Sweden), placed fourth overall.
Persson, who won the long jump on Saturday, added a triple jump gold medal on Sunday. Her best effort was 11.50 meters. She picked up another point for the team with an eighth-place finish in the 100 meter hurdles (15.11), and was also a member of the Jaspers' 4x100 meter relay team that finished third in a time of 48.52 seconds. Two of the other members of that relay—Paige Chapman (Abingdon, MD) and Marisa Robbins (Goshen, NY) earned individual gold medals, as well. Chapman won the 100 meters in 12.10 seconds, while Robbins cleared 3.50 m (11'5¾) in the pole vault.
Charlene Pohl (Bisingen, Germany) notched a pair of third-place finishes, setting a personal-best in the triple jump (11.34 m, 37'2½) while also recording a 1.55 m (5'1) effort in the high jump. In the pole vault, Maddie Arndt (Merrimac, MA) and Breanna Brucher (Glen Spey, NY) both had clearances at 3.35 m (10'11¾), with Arndt being awarded the bronze medal on misses.
Jasmine Davis (Ronkonkoma, NY) placed fourth in the 400 meters (58.27) and seventh in the 200 meters (26.20). She also anchored Manhattan's 4x400 meter relay squad to fifth place in 4:06.24. Dayzondra Gonzalez (Monroe, NY), who ran on both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams, grabbed sixth in the individual 100 (12.38). Mikeisha Kelly (Albany, NY), meanwhile, took sixth in the 400 with a time of 59.50 seconds. In addition to finishing eighth in the 800 meters (2:23.28), Kelly Gorman (South Amboy, NJ) joined with Alexa Roda (Staten Island, NY), Victoria Cruz (West Nyack, NY) and Erin Spadaccini (Wilmington, DE) to secure fourth place in the 4x800 meter relay (9:22.61).
As a team, Manhattan earned 109.5 points. Monmouth claimed its third straight MAAC title with 228 points, while Quinnipiac edged Rider 158-156.5 for second place.
After grabbing the silver medal in the 400 (48.55), Will Stallings (Sleepy Hollow, NY) ran the anchor leg in the final event—the 4x400 relay. Needing to finish fourth or higher in the race to clinch second place in the team standings, the Jaspers took second in 3:19.29, just .02 seconds behind Rider. Stallings was joined on the relay team by Akash Patel (Orlando, FL), Justin Alleyne (New Rochelle, NY) and Joe Martello (Amawalk, NY). Alleyne was also fifth in the 400 (49.65).
Stefan Hoeller (Bergisch Gladbach, Germany) took second in the 400 meter hurdles with a 53.77-second clocking, while Bobby Gebhard (Saddle River, NJ) grabbed his second silver medal of the meet in the triple jump (7.31 m, 23'11¾). Dennis Eriksson (Sundsvall, Sweden) received the bronze after leaping 14.80 m (48'6¾). Ire Bozovicar (Potoki, Slovenia) finished second in the discus (50.32 m, 165'1), and Ryan Addlesberger (Cinnaminson, NJ) claimed the bronze in the shot put (15.73 m, 15'7¼).
Fabian Mueller (Amtzell, Germany) (10.98) and Anthony Hall (Mountainville, NY) (11.01) went 4-5 in the 100, while Hall was sixth (22.08) and Mueller placed eighth (22.50) in the 200. They were also members of Manhattan's 4x100 relay team. Kyle Watkins (Coram, NY) and Hayden Clarke (Townsville, Australia) joined Mueller and Hall on the bronze medal-winning squad (42.33).
John Dove (Monroe, NY), meanwhile, finished fourth in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:56.40. Tom Bonaro (Pearl River, NY) grabbed seventh place in the 800 (1:57.71) to go along with Wilmer Jovel's (Closter, NJ) sixth-place effort in the 400 hurdles (55.99).
Manhattan edged Rider by two points for second place. The Jaspers finished with 153 points to the Broncs' 151. Indoor champion Monmouth defended its outdoor crown with 255 points.
In addition, the members of the MAAC All-Academic Team were announced. Manhattan had 14 men and eight women honored for their work in the classroom. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, student-athletes must have completed at least two semesters at their institution and boast a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher.
