PRINCETON, NJ – The Manhattan College men's and women's track & field teams were both in action at the ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Championships from Princeton University's Weaver Stadium on Saturday. Entering the final day of competition, the Jasper men are tied for 12th in the IC4A team standings with eight points. The women's squad, meanwhile, has four points in the ECAC Championships, which is good for a 23rd-place tie.
Stefan Hoeller (Bergisch Gladbach, Germany) earned four points for the men's team by placing fifth in the decathlon. His overall score was 5003 points. Hoeller had the best result in the discus with an effort of 35.51 meters (116 feet, six inches), and he was third in the 110 meter hurdles (15.53).
Blerim Pocesta (Staten Island, NY) added two team points with a seventh-place finish in the hammer throw (61.14 m, 200'7), while Bobby Gebhard (Saddle River, NJ) captured seventh place in the long jump (7.05 m, 23'1¾). Ire Bozovicar (Potoki, Slovenia), meanwhile, just missed scoring in the discus, finishing ninth with a mark of 49.42 m (162'2). In addition, John Dove (Monroe, NY) advanced to Sunday's final in the 1500 meters, posting a season-best time of 3:51.24 to earn the 12th and final qualifying spot.
Charlene Pohl (Bisingen, Germany), who sat in seventh place after four events, began day two of the heptathlon by taking second in the long jump (5.49 m, 18'0¼). She then placed first in the javelin with a toss of 32.51 m (106'8) before posting a time of 2:27.29 in the 800 meters to finish with a score of 4565 points. Her fifth-place showing overall gave Manhattan four points in the team standings.
Ellinor Persson (Taby, Sweden), meanwhile, captured 14th place in the long jump. Her best effort was 5.56 m (18'3).
On Sunday, Dove will run the IC4A 1500-meter final at 12:30 p.m. Gebhard and Dennis Eriksson (Sundsvall, Sweden) will compete in the men's triple jump, while Persson will also be in action in the women's triple jump.
