Friday Penn Relays Recap
PHILADELPHIA – On Saturday afternoon, the Manhattan College track & field team was in competition at a pair of meets. The Jaspers concluded action at the 122nd edition of the historic Penn Relays while also taking part in the Lions Invitational at the College of New Jersey.
At the Penn Relays, Blerim Pocesta (Staten Island, NY) took part in the men's championship hammer throw and placed eighth overall with a mark of 62.13 meters (203 feet, 10 inches). Bobby Gebhard (Saddle River, NJ), who was a part of the Jaspers' school record-setting shuttle hurdles team on Friday, participated in the men's college triple jump on Saturday. His best effort was a 14.40 m (47'3) leap, which was good for 13th place.
While Pocesta and Gebhard wrapped up Manhattan's participation at the Penn Relays, most of the team was at the College of New Jersey for the Lions Invitational.
The Jaspers earned a pair of event wins on the men's side. Will Stallings (Sleepy Hollow, NY) was first in the 400 meters with an IC4A-qualifying time of 48.05 seconds. Stallings also ran the anchor leg on the 4x400 meter relay squad that took third in 3:23.22. John Dove (Monroe, NY) was Manhattan's other first-place finisher on the day. He registered a 1:54.25 clocking in the 800 meters. Meanwhile, Stefan Hoeller (Bergisch Gladbach, Germany), who also ran the shuttle hurdles at the Penn Relays on Friday, qualified for the IC4A Championships in the 400 meter hurdles. He took fourth overall in 53.84 seconds.
Ire Bozovicar (Potoki, Slovenia) had three top 10 finishes in the throws. He grabbed third in the hammer throw (46.13 m, 151'4) and ninth in the shot put (13.47 m, 44'2½) while also securing fourth in the discus with an IC4A-qualifying distance of 51.02 m (167'5). Ryan Addlesberger (Cinnaminson, NJ) was fourth in the shot put with a toss of 14.90 m (48'10¾). Gustave Menocal (Bronx, NY) placed fifth in the discus (46.34 m, 152'0) and seventh in the hammer throw (44.42 m, 145'9), while Connor Reilly (Ridgefield, CT) and Anthony Yanni (Brooklyn, NY) went 6-7 in the javelin. Reilly had a mark of 47.98 m (157'5), and Yanni got out to 45.21 m (148'4). In addition, Chris Sandoli (Old Bridge, NJ) cleared 4.40 m (14'5¼) in the pole vault, which was good for sixth place.
It was also a good day on the women's side. Charlene Pohl (Bisingen, Germany) led the way with a first-place finish in the long jump. She got out to a distance of 5.56 m (18'3). Pohl also placed eighth in the javelin (34.82 m, 114'3) and 12th in the 100 meter hurdles (15.45). Marisa Robbins (Goshen, NY) added a third-place showing in the pole vault (3.60 m, 11'9¾), and Maddie Arndt (Merrimack, MA) took eighth with a leap of 3.35 m (10'11¾).
Kathy Cadet (Endicott, NY) was Manhattan's top performer on the track. She grabbed second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:03.54. Jasmine Davis (Ronkonkoma, NY), meanwhile, placed fifth in the 400 (58.69) and seventh in the 200 meters (26.31). Mikeisha Kelly (Albany, NY) recorded a time of 59.69 in the 400 to secure ninth place. In addition, Keeley Hogan (Delmar, NY) and Lisa Fajardo (Brooklyn, NY) both earned top 10 finishes in the 1500 meters. Hogan placed seventh in 4:48.01, and Fajardo's time of 4:50.76 was good for 10th place.
Next weekend, Manhattan heads to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Outdoor Championships. Action gets underway on Saturday, May 7 at the Rider University Track & Field Complex, while the team champions will be decided on Sunday, May 8. Manhattan placed second on the men's side and the women's team tied for third at the MAAC Indoor Championships.
