PRINCETON, NJ – The Manhattan College men's and women's track & field teams wrapped up competition at the Princeton Outdoor Invitational on Saturday. Enjoying perfect weather conditions for the first time since opening the season in Florida and Arizona, the Jaspers put forth several outstanding performances at Weaver Stadium. The meet was team scored, and the Manhattan men placed third as a unit. The women's squad, meanwhile, finished seventh in the team standings.
Manhattan earned four event wins on the men's side. John Dove (Monroe, NY) took first in the 1500 meters with an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:56.48. Amir Khaghani (Bethesda, MD), meanwhile, grabbed first place in the 3000 meters with an 8:33.51 clocking.
Bobby Gebhard (Saddle River, NJ) won the triple jump with a leap of 15.17 meters (49 feet, 9¼ inches), and Hayden Clarke (Townsville, Australia) was first in the long jump (7.17 m, 23'6¼). He also finished seventh in the javelin, getting out to a distance of 46.53 m (152'8). Ire Bozovicar (Potoki, Slovenia) qualified for the IC4A Championships in the discus, placing third with a mark of 48.17 m (158'0).
Dennis Eriksson (Sundsvall, Sweden) competed in three different events. He took third in the triple jump (13.68 m, 44'10¾), while also finishing seventh in the 110 meter hurdles (15.67) and ninth in the 400 meter hurdles (58.37). Stefan Hoeller (Bergisch Gladbach, Germany) was fourth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.15 seconds. Anthony Hall (Mountainville, NY) placed fourth in the 200 meters (22.29), just ahead of teammate Fabian Mueller (Amtzell, Germany) (fifth, 22.31). Mueller added a sixth-place showing in the 100 meters (11.01). Akash Patel (Orlando, FL) secured another fifth place finish for the Jaspers in the 400 meters (49.77).
As a team, Manhattan collected 85 points to place third out of nine teams in the meet. The Jasper women had 26 team points and secured seventh place in the team standings.
Leading the way for the women's squad was Ellinor Persson (Taby, Sweden), who had a personal-best leap of 5.82 m (19'1¼) to win the long jump and qualify for the ECAC Championships. Persson also posted a time of 14.83 seconds in the preliminary round of the 100 meter hurdles before hitting two hurdles in the final and finishing eighth.
Charlene Pohl (Bisingen, Germany) ended up just behind Persson in the long jump. She placed third with a distance of 5.60 m (18'4½). Pohl also finished 11th in the high jump (1.55 m, 5'1). Marisa Robbins (Goshen, NY), meanwhile, tied for second place in the pole vault after clearing 3.65 m (11'11¾).
On the track, Paige Chapman (Abingdon, MD) grabbed fifth place in the 100 (12.34) and took eighth in the 200 (25.61). Kelly Gorman (South Amboy, NJ) was seventh in the 800 meters (2:14.22), while Erin Spadaccini (Wilmington, DE) posted a personal-best clocking of 4:41.63 to place eighth in the 1500. The Jaspers also secured fifth place in the 4x100 meter relay, with the quartet of Dayzondra Gonzalez (Monroe, NY), Kathy Cadet (Endicott, NY), Chapman and Robbins notching a time of 48.24 seconds.
This was the first of two consecutive meets at Princeton for the Jaspers. Next weekend, Manhattan will take part in the Larry Ellis Invitational, which gets underway on Friday and concludes on Saturday.
