TEMPE, AZ – The Manhattan College men's track & field team capped a successful first weekend of the outdoor season at Arizona State's Baldy Castillo Invitational from Sun Angel Stadium on Saturday. Anthony Hall (Mountainville, NY) qualified for the IC4A Championships in two different events, while Hayden Clarke (Townsville, Australia) took third in the men's long jump with an effort that should qualify him for the NCAA East Preliminary Round.
Hall placed 19th in the 100 meters with a time of 10.94 seconds. He also just missed the IC4A qualifier in the 200 meters, finishing in 22.36 seconds. Hall later ran the leadoff leg on Manhattan's 4x100 meter relay squad that posted an IC4A-qualifying mark of 42.18 seconds. Will Stallings (Sleepy Hollow, NY), Clarke and Fabian Mueller (Amtzell, Germany) joined him on the 4x100 team that took 10th in the event.
In the long jump, Clarke got out to a distance of 7.47 meters (24 feet, 6¼ inches), which was good for third overall and put him in good position to participate in the NCAA Prelims. After taking ninth in the long jump (6.94 m, 22'9¼), Bobby Gebhard (Saddle River, NJ) secured third place in the triple jump with a leap of 14.73 m (48'4), which was better than the IC4A qualifying standard.
Also qualifying for the IC4A Championships was Ire Bozovicar (Potoki, Slovenia) in the discus. He grabbed 13th place with a toss of 49.35 m (161'11).
On the women's side, Ellinor Persson (Taby, Sweden) placed seventh in the triple jump (11.30 m, 37'1) and 12th in the 100 meter hurdles (15.00), while Charlene Pohl (Bisingen, Germany) was 15th in the long jump (5.24 m, 17'2¼).
Manhattan returns to action next weekend at the Monmouth Season Opener. Competition gets underway on Friday and continues on Saturday.
