Manhattan Falls To Virginia Tech

Norfolk, VA - Virginia Tech scored five first-inning runs en route to posting a 12-7 win over Manhattan.

Despite the loss, the Jaspers turned in another impressive offensive performance as eight of the nine regulars hit safely.

Freshman Fabian Pena (Miami, FL / Calusa Prep) went 3-for-5 with two runs to highlight a 12-hit attack..Junior Matt Forlow went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI while sophomore Michael Pfenninger (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) also went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run to round out the multi-hit performers for Manhattan.

Despite being saddled with the loss, freshman RHP Ryan Takacs (Jackson, NJ / Jackson Memorial) was impressive in his collegiate debut, striking out five Hokie hitters over 5.0 innings.

Trailing 9-4 in the seventh, the Jaspers rallied with three runs but could get no closer.

Joe Freiday, Jr. went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI to lead the way for Virginia Tech (4-3).

Manhattan (1-2) returns to action at Miami on Friday, March 4 with first pitch slated for 7:00 pm.
