RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan College indoor track & field team hosted the Draddy Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Competing at Draddy Gymnasium for the only time this season, the Jaspers had several solid performances, notching five event wins.
With the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships coming up next week, most of the team was given the weekend off. Saturday's meet featured mainly sprinters and field event athletes.
Bobby Gebhard (Saddle River, NJ) won the men's triple jump with a leap of 14.40 meters (47 feet, three inches). Blerim Pocesta (Staten Island, NY), meanwhile, took first in the men's weight throw (20.08 m, 65'10½) and second in the men's shot put (15.51 m, 50'10¾). Gustave Menocal (Bronx, NY) placed second behind Pocesta in the weight throw (16.27 m, 53'4½), while Ryan Addlesberger (Cinnaminson, NJ) was the third-place finisher in the shot put (14.64 m, 48'0½). In the men's pole vault, Chris Sandoli (Old Bridge, NJ) cleared 4.35 m (14'3¼), which was good for third place.
On the track, Justin Alleyne (New Rochelle, NY) earned the win in the 500 meters with a time of 1:09.21. Kyle Watkins (Coram, NY) secured second place in the 300 meters with a 36.49-second clocking, and Sean Mirando (Oakhurst, NJ) finished third in the 60 meter hurdles (8.89). In addition, Anthony Hall (Mountainville, NY) placed fourth in the 60 meters (7.10).
Ellinor Persson (Taby, Sweden) finished first in the women's 60 hurdles (9.28) and added a third-place showing in the long jump (5.63 m, 18'5¾). Charlene Pohl (Bisingen, Germany) just missed qualifying for the ECAC Championships in the event. She narrowly edged Persson for second with a leap of 5.67 m (18'7¼). Paige Chapman (Abingdon, MD) won the 60 with a time of 7.73 seconds, while Maddie Arndt (Merrimack, MA) and Breanna Brucher (Glen Spey, NY) both cleared 3.15 m (10'4) to tie for second in the women's pole vault.
This was Manhattan's final competition before the MAAC Indoor Championships, which will be held on Sunday at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center. The Jasper men took second and the women were fourth in 2015.
