Box Score

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. - The Manhattan women's lacrosse team dropped a high scoring affair to Niagara, 18-12, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play at Monteagle Ridge on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Jaspers fall to 3-13 overall, including an 0-7 mark in league play. Niagara moves to 6-10, and 3-4 against MAAC opponents.

Niagara senior Carrie-Jo Farrugia scored a game-high nine points (6G, 3A) in the outing. She and sophomore Taylor Wolf led the Purple Eagles offense with a combined 16 points. Wolf recorded six goals and an assist on the afternoon.

The Jaspers didn't lead the game at any point. With the score tied at three 12:03 into the opening half, the Purple Eagles rattled off four straight goals to take a 7-3 lead, one they would hold onto the rest of the way.

With the score 9-4 after 30 minutes of play, Manhattan netted five of the first seven goals of the second stanza to cut the deficit to just two, at 11-9, but that is as close as the Jaspers would come. Junior co-captain Megan Yarusso (Brewster, N.Y. / Brewster), juniors Stefanie Ranagan (Yorktown Heights, N.Y. / Yorktown) and Claire Roediger (Katonah, N.Y. / Somers) and sophomore Darby Nolan (Oakridge, N.J. / Jefferson Township) scored for Manhattan over the span. Two of Yarusso's team-high three goals came during the stretch.

Ranagan also turned in a three-point effort, picking up two goals and an assist in the contest. She controlled six draws to lead all players.

Nolan, senior Domenica O'Brey (Loudonville, N.Y. / Colonie Central) and junior co-captain Kaitlyn Cunningham (Spring Lake, N.J. / Red Bank Catholic) scored twice each for Manhattan in the game.

Senior starting goalkeeper and co-captain Christina Fiorinelli (Massapequa, N.Y. / Massapequa) corralled a game-high five ground balls.

Junior Casey Silvestri (Pomona, N.Y. / Albertus Magnus) was a key contributor for the Jaspers, picking up two ground balls, controlling four draws and sharing the team lead in caused turnovers, with two.

Manhattan will conclude its season on Wednesday, April 22, when the squad hosts Marist on Senior Day at Gaelic Park. The opening draw control is scheduled for 3 p.m., with a ceremony to honor the seniors slated to take place prior to the game.
