Riverdale, N.Y. (August 26, 2007)- The Lady Jaspers won a close game over the University of Hartford on Sunday, 3-2. This was Manhattan's first win of the 2007 season.
The Lady J's dropped the first game after battling Hartford back and fourth, 30-28. They bounced right back to take the second game 30-26. With the games knotted at 1-1 Manhattan lost the third game, 30-27. Being one game away from losing the match, the Lady Jaspers showed strength winning the fourth game 30-22. As the match came down to a decisive fifth game, the Lady Jaspers showed that they wanted this game bad as they took the final game 15-13.
Manhattan's offense was led by freshman Diane Strutner, who tallied a game-high 17 kills. Sophomore Rita Welsh contributed with 11 kills. The defense was anchored by senior Ashley Watson who had a game-high 22 digs. Junior Alyssa Getzel also had 10 digs and contributed 46 assists.
The Lady Jaspers look to take their winning momentum into the Jasper Invitational this weekend as they will take on the University of Arkansas-Little Rock on Friday, August 31 followed by two games on September 1 against Maryland-Eastern Shore and Seton Hall University.
