Newark, N.J. (April; 7, 2007)-Saint Peter's pitcher Jessica LaBovick picked up saves in both games as Saint Peter's slipped by Manhattan in both games of Saturday afternoon's doubleheader. Candice Sheridan hit two homeruns on the day as Manhattan falls to 1-5 in MAAC play.

 

In game one, both teams combined for five homeruns, but Saint Peter's squeaked out a 6-5 win. Manhattan trailed 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, until Jaclyn Churilla and Michelle Gutierrez hit back-to-back homeruns to make the score 4-2.

 

Saint Peter's added one in the fifth inning on a solo homerun from Julie Saporito, but Manhattan answered back in the bottom of the inning on a RBI by Danielle Just.

 

The Peahens added one in the sixth inning to lead 6-3, but Sheridan got Manhattan to within 6-5 with a two run homerun to left field. In the bottom the seventh inning, Jessica LaBovick picked up the save for the Peahens by retiring the side in order.

 

In game two, Manhattan fell behind 3-0, but Sheridan tied the score with one swing of the bat in bottom of the fourth inning. The game remained tied until the top of the sixth inning when Megan Papierniak scored on a wild pitch from third, giving the Peahens a 4-3 lead.

 

Saint Peter's starter Amber Phillips worked the sixth inning, then gave way to LaBovick in the seventh, who picked up the save.

 

Manhattan returns to the field this Tuesday against Fordham University.
