GAME 2 BOXSCORERiverdale, N.Y. (May 2, 2006)- The Lady Jasper's are now 25-21 overall on the season after defeating CCSU today in a non-conference double header. Manhattan's offense has been on fire lately, today proved to be no different, scoring 28 runs in two games. Today's 28 runs were the most runs scored in a double header since 1994 against Delaware State and the fifth straight win over CCSU.
In game one, Manhattan scored 17 runs and had 17 hits. This became the most runs scored in a game since a 19-3 win over Niagara in the 1993 season. Junior
Liz Strein went 3-4, with three runs scored and has over 50 hits this season. Strein started things off in the first inning with a single, and freshman
Danielle Just continued her hit streak with single, scoring two runs. In the second inning Manhattan scored 7 more runs, but the big hit came from Just, where she struck in two more RBI's. Freshman
Amanda Genovese was solid at the plate going 4-4, with four RBI's for the Lady Jasper's. Everyone contributed to the win, freshman
Devon Gustafson had a hit and three RBI's and junior
Deirdre Langan had two hits and two RBI's. Senior pitcher
Jill Medea now (16-10) earns the win in the first contest.
In the nightcap, Manhattan's bats came alive once again and tallied 11 runs on 15 hits. Junior
Kristin Gelsleichter started the game strong and junior
Liz Pennino came in to close the door. Pennino breaks the school record for saves in a season with four. Strein extended her offensive streak compiling two more hits on the day and batting in three runs. Freshman Lyndzie Phillips went 2 for 4 with two RBI's and Gustafson added two more hits and two RBI's to carry the Lady Jasper's to victory.
This coming weekend at Gaelic Park, Manhattan faces Niagara and Canisius in their final games of the season. On Saturday the Lady Jasper's will go against Niagara at 12 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on GoJaspers.com. The seniors will be honored on Saturday and Sunday will face rival Canisius at 9 a.m.
