GAME TWO BOXSCORE

Washington, D.C. (February 25, 2006)- Manhattan opened the 2006 season by splitting a pair of games at the George Washington Tournament in Washington, D.C. Jill Medea tossed a one-hit shutout in the first game as the Lady Jaspers blanked the host school, 12-0, in five innings. Army posted a 2-1 comeback win over Manhattan in the second game.

In the opener, after a scoreless first, the Lady Jaspers scored the only run they would need, as Amanda Genovese doubled to left center with one out, went to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a RBI single by Tina Buyea.

Manhattan's offense would then come alive, scoring four in the third, five in the fourth, and two more in the fifth before the game was halted.

Genovese went 3-4 with two RBI to pace Manhattan. Devon Gustafson, Kiera Fox, and Buyea each tallied two hits, while Danielle Just, Genovese, and Buyea each recorded two RBI.

Medea allowed a leadoff double in the second as her only hit, adding five strikeouts.

In the nightcap, the Lady Jaspers again got on the board first, as a Fox RBI single scored Just, who has led off the game with a walk.

Manhattan made the lead stand up through five innings, before Army scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to provide the final margin. Manhattan had the tying run on second with two outs, but could not score the equalizer.

Liz Strein has the only multi-hit game for Manhattan.

Kristin Gelsleichter went the first five innings for the Lady Jaspers, scattering four hits while striking out two and walking none. Medea allowed both Army runs.

The Tournament continues on Sunday.
