RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattan University softball team (4-17, 1-2 MAAC) lost to the Warriors of Merrimack College (4-12, 2-1) by a score of 4-2 in the deciding game of the home opening series inside Gaelic Park on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After Karissa Spring escaped a first-inning jam, Merrimack cracked the box score open in the second, drawing a bases-loaded walk.
- Fast forward to the sixth inning, the Warriors extended their lead to two runs with a solo home run.
- The Jaspers' offense came alive in the following frame with back-to-back walks from Angelina Gencarelli and Jamie Falotico.
- Both runners would advance on a wild pitch, with Gencarelli soon after stealing home to cut the lead in half.
- Wild pitches came in bunches for the Merrimack staff, as two more of them helped Falotico score to tie the game up.
- Merrimack used a small-ball approach to scrape two more across in the ninth, as the Jaspers could not respond in the bottom half.

QUOTES FROM THE JASPERS:
Head Coach Bridget Hurlman: "Definitely a tough one today. Team fought back hard and showed heart in the 7th to keep the game alive. Some breaks didn't go our way in extras but we don't have time to dwell. Need to make our small adjustments and execute to win this Tuesday at Mount."
NEXT UP:
The Jaspers will travel to Emmitsburg, M.D., on Tuesday, March 25th, for a doubleheader against the Mountaineers of Mount St. Mary's (MD). The first pitch will be at 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
