Riverdale, N.Y. — It's the calm before the storm once Manhattan hosts Wagner (0-1-2) on Sunday at 11 a.m. The Jaspers will make their first appearance of the season on the turf at Gaelic Park.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:
-Antunes made her first start of the season at Wagner. At North Arlington High School (NJ), Antunes recorded 18 goals and 23 assists as a junior—both top 10 marks in the state—and 14 goals and 24 assists (most in NJ) as a senior. In 2023, she notched a pair of goals for the Jaspers, including one at Wagner.
-Sophomore goalkeeper Molly Brunk registered her second career shutout at LIU on Thursday. She has started in every game of her Jasper career, having made 18 starts to date.
-Before beating LIU 1-0, Manhattan had gone 9 games without holding an opponent scoreless. Before that, the Jaspers registered a 1-0 win vs. Mount St. Mary's on 9/23/23.
-Wagner is winless in their first 3 games of the season and are coming off a 0-0 tie vs. Iona on Thursday. The Seahawks opened the season with a 0-0 tie vs. Rider on the opening night of women's college soccer. Overall, Wagner has yet to score a goal this season.
-In the NEC Preseason Poll, Wagner was picked to finish 4th after advancing to the NEC Championship Game in 2023 where they lost to Central Connecticut State University. Manhattan will visit CCSU on Wednesday.
-Manhattan head coach Brendan Lawler has 79 career victories coaching the Jaspers. He is currently in his 15th season at the helm for Manhattan.
LAST DANCE
-The 2024 roster has 10 seniors/graduate students on it. The seniors will be honored on 10/12 when Manhattan plays host to MAAC foe Saint Peter's.
SERIES HISTORY
-Manhattan is 15-5-2 all-time against Wagner. The Jaspers' longest winning streak versus the Seahawks was 5 games from 1993 to 1996. Last season, Manhattan recorded a 2-1 win on Staten Island on goals from Antunes and classmate Kaylee Stowell.
