RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Jaspers end their drought in this afternoon's flood, defeating the Bobcats 7-4 before the game was canceled due to lightning.
The Jaspers took advantage of an early lead to defeat the Bobcats, maintaining their lead until the game was canceled due to lightning striking with three minutes left.
After an even first quarter, the Jaspers shut out the Bobcats in the second quarter, ending it 4-0. Out of the four goals scored by the Jaspers, there were four different scorers during this 4-0 second quarter run.
Moving into an even colder third quarter, the Bobcats this time shut out the Jaspers. However, this meager 2-0 shutout by the Bobcats was not enough to overcome the Jaspers' four-goal lead.
As players became injured on both sides, and despite suffering a 2-0 shutout in the third quarter, the Jaspers' resolve did not falter. They finished what felt like the longest quarter so far with a statement. Right as the game-ending lightning struck, Ava Fernandes whipped the final goal into the back of the Bobcats' net to finish the game off with a goal.
Leading the Jaspers this afternoon was Fernandes, who scored two goals.
The Jaspers will play again later this week, traveling to Fairfield, CT, to take on Fairfield University on April 13 at 12:00 PM.
