RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Jaspers were defeated by the Griffins this afternoon, falling behind big in the third quarter. The final score was 12-7.
After scoring the first goal, the Jaspers trailed the remainder of the game against the Griffins. With the largest lead for the Griffins coming in the third quarter.
The Jaspers started the first quarter with a goal by Ava Fernandes in just over 30 seconds of play. However, the Griffins would score the next two goals in the relatively uneventful first quarter of play.
The Griffins continued their two-goal streak in the first quarter with three more in the beginning of the second before the Jaspers could answer back. Down by four, Reagan Mullins and Julianna Iovine scored two quick goals, with Iovine's coming from a free position shot. The Jaspers would score one more goal in the second before the end of the half, with Iovine ripping one in with 30 seconds remaining.
After returning from the locker room, the Griffins blitzed the Jaspers with a 5-1 third quarter, putting the Griffins up by six going into the fourth.
Despite outscoring the Griffins in the fourth, the Jaspers could not overcome the large gap that the Griffins built in the third.
At the forefront of the Jaspers' offense was Iovine, scoring four goals and picking up two ground balls, with one of the goals coming from a free position shot.
The Jaspers play again this Saturday, April 13, at 12:00 PM against Fairfield in Fairfield, CT.
