BUFFALO, N.Y. – Manhattan men's lacrosse dominates Canisius in Buffalo, 12-5, securing their second conference win.
"Today was a great all around team win with players making strong contributions all over the field. The defense was locked in early with Connor Hapward stepping it up in the goal along with Kyle Gucwa leading the way on offense. Midfielders Christian Lyons, Drew Hiner and Liam Peabody competed at a high level on both ends of the field.", said head coach Doug Sage.
After finishing the first quarter tied at two, the Jaspers dominated the rest of the game, even outscoring the Golden Griffins 5-0 in the third quarter.
The first quarter started slow for both teams. The Jaspers opened the second with four straight goals from Kyle Gucwa, the first of which came just after the one-minute mark. It wasn't until the Jaspers scored five straight goals that the Golden Griffins answered back with one goal at the end of the second quarter.
The third quarter was the strongest for the Jaspers in this afternoon's match-up. The Jaspers held the Golden Griffins scoreless in the quarter while scoring another five goals.
The third quarter would mark the end of the Jaspers' run in this game, as they went scoreless in the fourth. However, it was too late for the Golden Griffins to overcome the nine-point Jasper lead in just 15 minutes.
Seven Jaspers scored this afternoon, with Gucwa, who scored five goals and one assist, the clear leader. Behind Gucwa was James Basile, who scored two goals and one assist.
The Jaspers return to action later this week. They will be home to face Quinnipiac University on Wednesday, March 27th, at 4:00 PM.
