RIVERDALE, NY - Manhattan women's basketball fell short, 77-53 at home today against conference leading Fairfield.
Manhattan falls to 17-10 overall and 10-8 in league play, while Fairfield jumps to 26-1 and 18-0 in the MAAC.
Manhattan was led by Ines Gimenez Monserrat who contributed 13 points and five rebounds for the Jaspers. Leyla Ozturk added 11 for Manhattan.
Fairfield was led to victory by Kaety L'Amoreaux who scored 20 points and grabbed six rebounds. Meghan Anderson added 18 points and eight rebounds for the Stags.
"Tough home loss to an outstanding Fairfield team," said Head Coach Heather Vulin. "They made key shots and beat us on the boards, which is tough to do at our place. We have some work to do before heading down to Atlantic City."
Fairfield came out scorching hot, resulting in an early 13-2 lead, setting the tone in the game. The Jaspers would start to figure it out on offense late in the quarter, trailing 25-13 after the first. The second quarter started just as the first did, with the Stags nullifying the Manhattan offense, eventually outscoring the Jaspers 15-4 in the quarter.
The Jaspers would gain spurts of momentum in the third, cutting a 25 point halftime deficit down to 15, and outscoring Fairfield in the quarter, 21-17. The fourth quarter was won by Fairfield 20-15, resulting in the Stags taking home a 77-53 victory, remaining undefeated in conference play.
Manhattan takes the court again Thursday, March 7th when they head to Poughkeepsie to take on Marist in their final road game of the season.
