Box Score EMMITSBURG, MD - Manhattan women's basketball fell on the road tonight at Mount St. Mary's 58-43.
Manhattan falls to 17-9 overall and 10-7 in league play, while the Mount jumps to 12-15 and 9-9 in the MAAC.
Manhattan was led by Petra Juric who scored 14 points and picked up eight rebounds. Ines Gimenez Monserrat picked up 12 points for the Jaspers
Mount St. Mary's was led to victory by Jessica Tomasetti who scored 18 points, as well as Isabella Hunt, who recorded a double-double picking up 10 points and 12 rebounds.
"Tough road loss to a very good Mount team," said Head Coach Heather Vulin. "The difference was too many turnovers and second chance points. We will clean that up and be ready to play on Saturday."
Manhattan had a good start to the game, jumping out to a 15-11 lead after the first quarter. The Jaspers lost their lead in the second quarter, going down 21-19, before they were able to play the last 4:50 of the half without allowing a point. A Gimenez Monserrat three pointer on the Jaspers last possession gave them a 26-21 lead going into the half.
Things took a turn for the worst for the Jaspers in the second half. After exchanging three-pointers to start the half, the Mount would go on a 10-0 run that extended nearly five minutes of game time, giving them the lead back, 36-31. The Mount would go into the fourth quarter up five as well, this time 44-39. Offensive woes would strike the Jaspers in the fourth as their offense came to a standstill. After playing close and leading for a large portion of the contest, Manhattan was only able to record four points in the final quarter. This would ultimately decide the game, and give the Jaspers a tough road loss.
Manhattan takes the court again on Saturday when they return to Riverdale to take on conference leading Fairfield at 2 p.m. at Draddy Gymnasium.
