Jaspers go Down 57-50 vs Marist

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan College men's basketball team took on Marist today at Draddy Gymnasium, falling by a score of 57-50. 

Manhattan (5-20, 2-14 MAAC) was led by Seydou Traore who recorded a double-double scoring 18 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.Shaquil Bender added 13 for the Jaspers.

Graduate transfer DeJuan Clayton was deemed eligible by the NCAA shortly before tip-off. He debuted for the Jaspers in the second half, appearing for the final 10 minutes of the game. He was able to contribute nine points, shooting ¾ from the field, as well as ¾ from the free throw line.

Marist (15-9, 10-5 MAAC) was led by Max Allen who scored 15 points, and pulled down nine rebounds. Jackson Price added 10 off the bench for the Red Foxes.

The first half was a defensive battle between the conference foes. The teams went back and forth in the half, with baskets tough to come by. The Jaspers would only allow two points in the first five minutes of the contest, but Marist would come back to take a 12-11 lead with 8:26 remaining in the half. After this point, the Jaspers would take their defense to another level. The Jaspers would only allow two more points in the half, including an eight-minute run without allowing a point to the opposition. Manhattan would ultimately allow a season low, 14 points in the first half, taking a 20-14 lead into halftime.

Marist would come out of the gates firing in the second half, opening the frame on a 13-2 run to reclaim the lead, 27-22. Manhattan would try to make a run, making the score as close as 40-38 with 8:10 remaining in the game, before Marist closed the game out in the final eight minutes. Marist would extend their lead to double-digits, up to 51-40 with 4:55 remaining. Manhattan tried to chip away, but could not get the deficit under a seven point margin, finishing the game with a 57-50 defeat.

Manhattan shot 32.1% from the floor and 25% from three-point. They recorded 18 points in the paint and 24 bench points. 

Marist shot 39.6% from the floor and 33.3% from three-point. They recorded 24 points in the paint and 15 bench points.

The Jaspers next take the court on Friday, March 1st, when they take a trip to Loudonville, to take on Siena at 7 p.m. in another conference battle.
