RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan women's basketball team (12-4, 5-2 MAAC) will host Marist College for Community Day at 7 p.m. in Draddy Gymnasium this Thursday. Manhattan will then travel to Iona University this Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Preview: Last time out, Manhattan faced Marist on Feb 16, 2023, with the Jaspers falling short, 75-66. Manhattan played Iona Mar. 11, 2023, with the Jaspers falling short 73-60.
The Opponent: Marist (5-12, 3-4 MAAC) lost its last game against Fairfield, 60-46. The Red Foxes were led in scoring by Kiara Fisher, who had 18 points and five rebounds. Marist is currently ranked seventh in the conference standings. Iona (7-9, 2-5 MAAC) lost its last game against Siena, 77-56. Natalia Otkhmezuri finished with 15 points, while Judith Gomez added 10 points.
Leading the Way: Leading the Jaspers in their last outing was Nitzan Amar, who tallied 15 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Leyla Ozturk continued her stellar weekend of play with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Anne Bair had 11 points and four assists in a victory against Canisius College.
By the Numbers: Manhattan enters the week ranked second in the MAAC, including a three-game win streak. Statistically, the Jaspers are 52nd in the NCAA and first in the MAAC in scoring defense at 52.3 points per game, sixth in fouls per game (12.9) and free throw percentage (78.0). The Jaspers also rank first in the MAAC in blocked shots per game at 4.1.
