NIAGARA, N.Y. – Manhattan wraps up the week with their third consecutive road loss today against Niagara University, finishing with a 3-1 defeat. The final set scores were 13-25, 25-22, 12-25, and 22-25.

In the second set, the Jaspers bounced back after losing the first by more than 10 points. They triumphed over the Purple Eagles with a 25-22 win. Just when it seemed the second set might mimic the first, the Jaspers responded to a 3-0 lead by the Purple Eagles with an impressive five-to-one run, seizing the lead. After several lead changes, the decisive push from the Jaspers arrived towards the end of the set. With the score tied at 13, the Jaspers embarked on an 8-2 run, putting them ahead by five and securing the set victory.

Although the Jaspers were outmatched significantly in the third set, they fought tooth and nail in the fourth. Trailing by six, they summoned one final surge. The Jaspers capitalized on an attack error by the Purple Eagles, stringing together a six-point run to tie the set. Unfortunately, this effort fell short, and they were narrowly defeated 25-22.

Maike Bertens led the Jaspers in kills, totaling 14, while Sarah Emmons contributed 28 assists. Bertens also made an impact defensively with 12 digs.

Manhattan will play again on Saturday, September 30th, at 3:00 p.m. against Fairfield University in Draddy Gymnasium.
