NEWARK, N.J.– Manhattan suffered their first road game defeat this week against NJIT, losing all three sets 25-27, 24-25, 8-25.

The Jaspers put up a strong fight in the first set, taking the score beyond the standard 25 points. However, they couldn't maintain their momentum and ended up losing the next two sets to the Highlanders.

In the opening set of the match, the Jaspers stayed neck and neck with the Highlanders, narrowly losing 25-27. The Jaspers secured the first point of the set with an attack error, but the Highlanders quickly responded with a kill from Elley Torres. This back-and-forth scoring continued until Camila Gomez tied the set at 22 points. The Jaspers then went on a three-point run, putting them ahead by two points. They were just one point away from clinching the set, but the Highlanders rallied with a three-point run of their own after a timeout, ultimately winning the set 25-28.

The following two sets saw the Jaspers fall behind by more than ten points, unable to catch up to the Highlanders' lead.

Leading the Jaspers tonight was Gomez, who contributed 12 kills. Julieanne McKee played a crucial role by providing 20 assists for her team.

Manhattan will return to the court on Saturday, September 23rd, at 1:00 p.m. to face Canisius in Buffalo, N.Y.
