JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Manhattan softball split its doubleheader at Saint Peter's on Wednesday afternoon. Manhattan dropped game one before taking game two.

Game 1: Saint Peter's 7, Manhattan 6
The first game of the day was a back-and-forth affair. Manhattan led early before Saint Peter's took the lead with a huge third inning. Manhattan then tied the game in the late stages before Saint Peter's got a solo home run to break the tie and win.

Maddy Weir opened the scoring with a solo home run to left in the top of the second. The blast was Weir's fourth of the season.

The Peacocks then struck for six runs in the bottom of the third. Three of the first four hitters reached base. Cara McNulty brought in the first two runs with a double. The next three hitters all drove in runs with hits to extend the lead to 5-1. A groundout brought in the sixth run of the frame.

All of Manhattan's runs in the fifth came with two away. Kaitlyn Flood drew a walk to load the bases to bring up Marika Deemer. Deemer brought home everyone, including herself, with a grand slam to center field. That made it 6-5 Saint Peter's. The Jaspers loaded the bases again with two away after a walk, single, and a hit by pitch. Lindsey Hoag stepped into the box looking for a two-out hit before a pitch hit her to force in the tying run.

The Peacocks did not wait to respond. Dakota Pitts homered to lead off the bottom half of the fifth to break the tie and give the Peacocks the lead for good.

Deemer's four RBI tied a single-game high by a Jasper this season. Lily Fish had the only multi-hit game for the Jaspers, finishing 3-4.

McNulty and Pitts drove in two for Saint Peter's and had two hits each. Tai Turner went 3-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Game 2: Manhattan 7, Saint Peter's 2
Manhattan jumped on Saint Peter's early in game two. The Jaspers extended the lead late to pull away in the end.

Lily Fish rolled her three-hit performance in game one into game two with a two-run homer in her at-bat of the second game. Fish's round-tripper made it 3-0 Manhattan after the Jaspers scored on a double-steal in the first.

Fish wasn't done, though. In the fifth, the designated player brought in two more with a single to center to make it 6-1 Manhattan. Earlier in the inning, Marika Deemer made it 4-1 with two more RBIs.

Lauren Rende scored her second run of the game in the sixth on an error. Rende scored on the double steal in the first.

Mollie Charest picked up her fourth win of the season in game two. The right-hander worked around six hits and a walk to collect the victory.

Jess Forte went 3-3 for the Peacocks with an RBI.

Fish, Deemer, Rende, Megan Hedlund, and Gabriella Mazzotta had two hits in game two. Mazzotta also scored twice.

The Jaspers are back in action on Sunday, May 7, for a doubleheader against Quinnipiac starting at 11 a.m. at Gaelic Park. It is the final two games of the regular season for the Jaspers, and it will also be senior day.
