RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattan women's lacrosse team finishes the regular season this week at home against Fairfield and Niagara.
Manhattan (6-9, 2-4 MAAC) and Fairfield (10-4, 5-1 MAAC) will meet in Riverdale, N.Y., at Gaelic Park, at 3 p.m.
In the Stags' most recent match, they hosted Niagara, losing to them by one, 11-10. Before playing Niagara, Fairfield had won every MAAC game by at least five points. When the Jaspers and Stags faced each other last year, the Stags defeated the Jaspers 14-6.
The Jaspers will celebrate their senior day before the match against Niagara this Saturday. The honored seniors are Brigit Crosby, Andrea Liotta, Hannah Cleary, Caroline D'Agostino, Jennifer McPherson, Jillian Reiner, Julia Fernandes, Jessica Hise, Ashley Gambardella, and Reagan Mullins.
Manhattan and Niagara (9-6, 3-3 MAAC) will meet in Riverdale, N.Y., at Gaelic Park at 3 p.m. In the Purple Eagles' most recent game, they defeated the previously undefeated Stags 11-10. Before coming to Gaelic Park, Niagara has to host Siena.
In their most recent match, the Jaspers battled Siena (11-5, 6-1 MAAC) last Saturday in Riverdale, N.Y. The Jaspers were defeated by the Saints 9-8. In the first half of the game, both teams fired off shots, scoring seven goals in the first quarter. The Jaspers went into halftime down by one. Both teams took turns shutting out the other in the third and fourth quarters. The Jaspers, however, couldn't score the extra goal in the fourth needed to tie the game, resulting in the loss.
The key players of the Jaspers' offense included Mullins, Reiner, and Olivia Cruthers, scoring two goals. Andrea Liotta and Ava Fernandes picked up three ground balls each.
