Jaspers Suffer Pair of Setbacks to Broncs Sunday

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Manhattan fell in a pair of low-scoring contests to Rider on Sunday afternoon. 
 
Game 1: Rider 1, Manhattan 0
The lone run of game one came in the bottom of the fourth off a single from Gianna Epps. Jessie Niegocki tossed a complete game one-hitter for the Broncs in the circle.
 
The Jaspers' got a runner aboard in the first inning when Kaitlyn Flood got hit by a pitch with two outs. The next Jasper base runner didn't come until the top of the seventh when Lauren Rende led off with a double. Rende advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt with one away but was stranded at third.
 
Niegocki stuck out 10 to collect her fourth win of the season.
 
Sophia Kiseloski went six innings for the Jaspers and allowed just one earned run. The freshman struck out four and worked around 12 base runners.
 
Epps finished the first game 2-4. Bianca Koonce, who scored off the Epps single, went 1-2 at the plat.
 
Game 2: Rider 4, Manhattan 1
Manhattan scored first in game two before the Broncs added two runs in the first and third innings to complete the doubleheader sweep.
 
Lauren Rende, the game's second batter, put the Jaspers ahead with a solo homer to left field. It was Rende's team-leading fourth of the season.
 
Olivia Burroughs also homered to left field in the bottom of the first. Burroughs' blast put the Broncs ahead 2-1.
 
L. Wright doubled the Broncs' lead with a double to right-center. Wright then scored the fourth run on a Manhattan error.
 
Kathryn Schmierer went the distance for the Broncs to earn win number three of the season.
 
Marika Deemer started in the circle for the Jaspers, went three innings, and took the loss.
 
Manhattan returns to the diamond on Monday for a rescheduled doubleheader at Mount St. Mary's. The two sides were postponed due to the weather on Sunday.
